WebCampus Procedures

WebCampus Course Size:

WebCampus disk space is a vital resource. We therefore ask all users to ensure that they are prudent in the use of this space.  Please follow best practices when uploading files into your course to ensure that they are not unnecessarily large. For example, converting images from BMP or TIFF format to GIF or JPEG can reduce file sizes. We also discourage uploading multimedia (video/audio) into WebCampus.  WebCampus is not capable of streaming multimedia content and is not the appropriate place to store such files for download. End users without high speed connections often have difficulty loading large image and multimedia files, and even users with high speed connections can experience delays loading audio and video files stored on the WebCampus server. Please click on your institution link for a list of available resources:

Course Retention:

Courses utilizing WebCampus will remain on the WebCampus server for two semesters after the originally scheduled completion date (a fall section will remain on the server until the beginning of the following fall semester), unless other arrangements have been made. Please watch the Campus Announcements for specific dates.

Guest Accounts:

Guest accounts are granted when requested by an instructor of record at an NLN institution. These accounts are intended primarily for collaboration with colleagues on the design or teaching of a section, for example, an account for a guest lecturer. Guest accounts are not provided for the purposes of marketing a section or product. Please check your department or unit policies to determine whether other accounts will be added to your sections automatically.

Levels of access that can be requested include:
Designer: ability to add and design content
Instructor: ability to manage the delivery of content, communications, grade book and groups.
Teaching Assistant: ability to assist with communication, grading, and section management
Student: ability to participate in section without modification to delivery
Auditor: ability to participate in section as a student but without a final grade.

Please remember that the student data maintained in WebCampus is FERPA protected and due diligence must be preformed to ensure the security of this data.

Student Course Access:

Students are enrolled into the sections as the sections are created. However, they are unable to see or access the sections until access is granted.

Nevada State College:
Students will be granted access to sections on the official start date of the section (official start date provided by the Student Information System).

University of Nevada, Las Vegas:
Students will be granted access to sections 14 days prior to the start of the section (official start date provided by the Student Information System). Instructors who do not wish for students to begin work until the first day of class, can deny early access to students and grant it later as desired.

Access will remain open for 14 days after the official end date of the section. If additional access is needed, users should contact their respective institution’s WebCampus Help Desk to arrange this access.

Faculty Course Access:

Faculty members are granted section instructor and section designer access to those sections for which they are the instructor of record. Access remains open from the time the section is created until the section is removed (see Course Retention Procedure).

Nevada State College:
All sections are created for each semester. Sections can not be created until a section has been added to the Student Iinformation System for the requested semester. Please watch campus announcements for creation dates for each semester.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas:
Sections are created as requested. Faculty members can request sections at anytime by contacting the WebCampus Support Center or completing the on-line ticket submission.

e-Packs/Publisher Content:

E-packs/Publisher Content is supported to the same extent that all WebCampus sections are supported.  This includes support with technical problems, password resets, and course corruptions.  Instructors are responsible for:

  • providing a copy of the content to the WebCampus Support Center at least 3 days in advance, if content is not designed to be imported into an existing section
  • contacting publishers regarding access codes
  • monitoring course size as related to the WebCT Course Size Policy.

Account Security

To ensure the security of all student and faculty data stored within WebCampus, users are required to provide sufficient proof of identity before password resets are provided. This includes your Student Information System ID. If you do not know your ID, this can be obtained from student enrollment services (registrar).
