Course Interface: Accessing Course Content
Content includes all material that is available in a course, such as course requirements, lessons, reading lists, assignments, and quizzes. Content can also include communication tools, such as discussion topics or chat rooms. The Instructor uses course tools to present a variety of content. You can access content in the following ways:
- in different course tools
- in the Course Content tool
Accessing Content in Different Course Tools
You can access content in individual course tools. For example, if the Assignments tool is available, you can access assignments by clicking the link to the Assignments tool. Or if the Assessments tool is available, you can access quizzes and self tests by clicking the link to the Assessments tool. When new content becomes available in each tool, a New indicator appears next to the tool.
New items are available for the tool next to which this icon appears
Links to course tools appear in one of the following locations:
- under Course Tools if the course menu appears vertically
- across the course menu if it appears horizontally
The course menu is visible throughout the course. You access tools and their content by clicking links to each tool.
Accessing Content in the Course Content Tool
You can access a variety of content from the Course Content tool. It is also know as the Home or Start page. For example, the Instructor can put links to assignments and quizzes in the Course Content tool. This allows you to access the assignments and quizzes from a central location, without having to go to each course tool.
The link to the Course Content tool appears in one of the following locations:
- under Course Tools if the course menu appears vertically
- as the first link if the course menu appears horizontally
No matter where you are at in the course, from the Course Menu, you can easily jump to a link on the Home page by first clicking the expand arrows next to Course Content
Given the following example, notice that even though you are currently looking at the Calendar, the links on the Home page are readily accessible:
Accessing Content via "Breadcrumbs"
Your current location in a course appears in the breadcrumbs at the top of the screen. Breadcrumbs also list the path of screens that you have visited. You can click a breadcrumb to return to a previous screen.
