The US Department of Statistics estimates that as much as 20% of the population has a sensory, physical, or learning disability. Legislation in both the USA and Canada reflects the importance of establishing accessibility standards for web-based resource development.

In accordance with the US Rehabilitation Act, Section 508, accessibility enhancements, which improve the use of the online course software with assistive technologies, have been implemented.

Accessibility enhancements include the following features:

• ALT tags on all graphic elements
   
• Consistent use of form labels
   
• Collapsible menus
   
• Keyboard access to all utilities
