Assessments: How do I export a quiz, survey, or self-test from my course?

ANSWER:

Assessments: Export

You can export assessments (quizzes, surveys, and self-tests) or individual questions from one  course and import them into another. When you export an assessment, its contents are also exported, along with its properties and any linked files. Submission and security settings however are not exported.

For example, when you export a quiz, the questions it contains, the question categories they belong to, and any content files, such as graphics files are also exported. If the categories do not already exist in the Questions Database that they are imported into, they are created.

You can export multiple assessments to one content package. You can also export individual questions from the Question Database tool. For detailed information about the Question Database, refer to the Question Database folder in this knowledge base.

Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Course- and Section-level Designers.

Step 1: From the Build tab, click the Assessments tool.

Step 2: To export:

  • One assessment: Click the down arrow  icon next to the assessment name and select Export.
  • Multiple assessments: Next to each assessment you want to export, select the check box.  Then click the Export button.

Step 3: In the Content Browser window:

  • Decide where to save the content package file.

TIP: Save file in My Files if you plan to access that file from all courses in which you are enrolled. Save file in Class Files if you only plan to use this file in this course. Don't put the file in Public Files.

  • Type a name in the Save as box for your content package and click OK.

The Export Progress screen appears, listing details of the export in progress. When the export is complete, the Export Log screen appears. If the export is unsuccessful, use the Export Log to trouble shoot. As long as you saved the file in My Files, the content package (the zip file) is now ready to be imported into a different course.

Step 4: On the Export Log screen, click the Return button.

NOTES:

  • If the course contains content from an e-Learning Resource Pack (e-Pack), you cannot export assessments.

  • Using Respondus, you can import (publish) assessments or individual questions from Respondus into your course, as well as export assessments or individual questions from your course into Respondus. For instructions on how to obtain a copy of Respondus, click here.
