Course Content: How do I hide or make an item unavailable to students?

ANSWER:

Content: Hide Item

By default, when a file, folder, or learning module is created, it is visible to Students. If you want to plan ahead, but don’t wish students to see future weeks’ material, you can add your materials to folders or learning modules and hide the link to each future folder or learning module. Once the time is approaching for the students to work with the materials in a folder or learning module, show the link.

Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Section-level Instructors and Designers

Step 1: From the Build or Teach tab, go to the Home page, folder, or learning module containing the item to hide.

Step 2: Click the down arrow icon next to the link's name and select Hide Item.

All appearances of this item have now been hidden from Students.  This includes ALL locations in which this item is linked. CAUTION: If you hide a file in one place (folder or learning module) but later add that same file to a different place, the file becomes visible in all places - even in the initial location where you intended that file to be hidden.

Likewise, to make an item available, select the Show Item option.

TIP: To automatically make an item available on a certain date and time, use Selective Release to add date criteria. See the folder Selective Release in this knowledge base for details on setting all kinds of criteria based on date, user, and Grade Book criteria.
