Discussions: How do I move older messages out without deleting them?

ANSWER:

Discussions: Move Messages

Outdated messages can be moved to a hidden topic or an available topic that is used solely for the purpose of archiving old messages. Archiving messages would make relevant content easier to find in the current topic. This is particularly useful for discussion forums that have accumulated an overwhelming number of messages. If the goal is not to have the archival topic viewed at all by students, hide it. But if you want that topic to still be referenced, keep it available.

Role(s) Needed: The instructions for moving discussion messages applies to Instructors and Designers.

Step 1: From the Build or Teach tab, click the Discussions tool.

Step 2: Go to the topic you want to move messages from.

Step 3: Click the Expand All button to list all message threads.

Step 4: Check the messages to move, or check the box next to Subject to select all.

Step 5: From the Move to drop-down list, select the topic to which you want to move the messages, and click the green Go arrow.

Step 6: Click OK on the confirmation message.

The messages are moved to the target topic.
