Folders: How do I replace the image or picture associated with an individual folder?

ANSWER:

Folder: Replace Icon

If you are displaying icons for links in your course, you can replace the icon for a particular folder but keep the icons for other folders consistent. For example, you have created an Exams folder and would like to upload a special image you found in your clipart to associate with this folder.

Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Section-level Designers

Step 1: On your computer, use an image-editing program to size the image to the dimensions you desire.

You cannot resize an image within your online course editing environment.

Step 2: In your course from the Build tab, go to the Home page or folder containing the folder for which you want to replace its icon.

Step 3: Click the down arrow  icon next to the folder link's name and select  Edit Properties.

Step 4: On Edit Folder Properties page, click the Replace Icon button:

Step 5: In the Content Browser window, do one of the following:

  • Check the box next to an image file that already exists in your files and click OK.

  • Click My Computer to upload an image file (.jpg or .gif).

NOTE: If the My Computer icon does not appear (you may see a red X), see alternative at the end of this article for instructions.

Select a file on your computer and click Open. A status bar will show the progress of the file being uploaded, and once it has finished uploading, the Edit Folder Properties page will refresh with the image

Step 6: Click Save if you are satisfied with the custom icon.

The page is refreshed with the new icon. If the image looks disproportionate to the other icons on the page, use your image-editing program on your computer to resize the image and upload the changed file back into your course files.

TIP: You can always get back to the original icon by selecting  Edit Properties again and clicking the Revert to Original Icon button.

Alternative to My Computer in Content Browser window

If the My Computer icon does not appear (you may see a red X) in the Content Browser, you need to get Java.  Reference the articles on Java in this knowledge base for further details. The workaround, until you install Java, is to click the area below the Class Files image (where the My Computer icon would appear). Then select the link Click here to select files individually

Click the Browse button to upload a file from your computer.  Each Browse button can be used to upload a single file from your computer

Click OK when finished.
