SOLUTION FOR "THIS ITEM IS EMPTY AND CANNONT BE MADE VISIBLE TO STUDENTS AT THIS TIME."

1. Click the down arrow by the assignment
2. Select Edit Properties
3. Note the caution statement at the top about WHY the assignment is unassigned.
4. Scroll to Assignment recipients and select All Students individually (or groups, if those are already defined).
5. Under Dates, make sure you have BOTH a valid Due Date and Cutoff Date (cutoff date can be later than due date but not sooner).
6. Click Save.
7. Click OK on the popup message (you shouldn't have any submissions if class hasn't started yet).
8. Click that down arrow by the assignment again.
9. Select Show or Hide Item.
