Learning Modules: How do I import a learning module from another course into my current course?
ANSWER:
Learning Modules: Import
You can import learning modules and content modules that were created in other courses.
You can import the following:
-
Content modules exported from a Campus Edition (CE) 4.x course
- Learning modules exported from a CE 6 or Vista 3.x or later course
Note: When a learning module is exported from a CE 6 or Vista course, only headings, files, and assessments linked in the table of contents or the action menu are exported. Any other items linked in the table of contents or the action menu are not exported and so, will not import.
Imported learning modules and content modules are added to the Learning Module tool. After a learning module or content module is imported, you can create links to it on content folders in the Course Content tool.
Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Section-level Designers.
Step 1: From the Build or Teach Tab, click the Manage Course tool on the Course Menu.
For example (Build tab > Designer Tools):
For example (Teach tab > Instructor Tools):
Step 2: Click the Import link.
Step 3: In the Content Browser window:
- Find and select the file to import. For example, click on My Files if you had exported a module in another course on this system
NOTE: If you will be importing a module from a different version of this course management system, click the My Computer image to upload that module's archive file into your current course files or My Files area. If the My Computer icon does not appear, you need to get Java. Another option is to create a WebDAV folder reference to your My Files area so that you can drag and drop files from your computer. Reference the articles on Java and WebDAV in this knowledge base for further details.
- Click the OK button.
The Content Import in Progress screen appears. It updates as import activities occur. If the import is unsuccessful, the Import in Progress screen lists the errors encountered during the process. Click View Import Log to view these errors.
Step 4: Click Return.
If you are not already there, go to the Learning Modules tool to see the imported module. Ensure you review, and if necessary, edit the module's properties.
NOTES:
-
The system stores all imported files in a folder called Imported_Resources. You can view the contents of this folder in File Manager.(from the Build tab, it is located on the Course Menu under Designer Tools).
- You can create links to learning modules on content folders in the Course Content tool. For more information, see Linking Learning Modules to Content Folders.
