ANSWER:
Assessments: Edit Properties
Quiz properties can be as simple as you want, simulating a classroom by using a computer lab to schedule the online quiz and giving the students a class session to complete it. They can also be complex, allowing you to specify very detailed delivery and security options and release criteria.
Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Section-level Instructors and Designers. The quiz must be created, however, by Course- or Section-level Designers.
Step 1: From the Build or Teach tab, click the Assessments tool in the Course Tools area of the Course Menu.
Step 2: Click the down arrow icon next to the assessment name and select Edit Properties.
Step 3: Carefully choose your quiz settings.
For detailed information about each setting, refer to the articles in the Assessments > Properties folder in this knowledge base. Some key settings are mentioned below:
Item Visibility. Click Show Item to make this quiz available to students, or Hide Item to make this quiz unavailable.
Grade Book Column Name. An associated column is created in the Grade Book for this quiz. Grades for this quiz are automatically transferred to the Grade Book, so that you can use this quiz toward students’ grades. TIP: The shorter the Grade Book column name, the better.
Disallow answer submission if time has expired. If time has expired, students can submit the quiz with the answers they saved within the timeframe; however, they cannot save any new answers after the time has expired.
If you want students to see their score after submitting the quiz, make sure you select Release the score after the assessment has been submitted. If the quiz contains paragraph questions, you may wish to Release the score after the assessment has been submitted and all of the questions have been graded.
Dates Available. A common setting is to set a start and end date/time for the quiz. Note if you’ve added the Calendar tool to your course, you can link the dates to the calendar.
TIPS:
-
If you set a start and end date/time for the quiz to a later date, make sure you select the Show Item option for Item Visibility. Otherwise, students will not see the quiz, even once it becomes available on the date/time you specified.
-
If you have specified release criteria for the quiz, ensure that any date criteria you have set does not conflict with the Dates Available settings. In general for assessments, ignore the Date criteria in Selective Release. Instead, use the Dates Available settings on the Properties page.
Results Properties. If you release the score to students, determine what you want your students to see:
-
The Show the question text checkbox must be selected for any subordinate checkboxes to be selected.
-
If you select the Show the student's response for each question checkbox, you must also select one of the following:
-
Show the percentage value of the Student's answer: if the question requires a multiple-part answer, this setting shows the percentage awarded to each part of the answer.
-
Show the correct answer.
-
Show the correct answer AND the percentage value of the Student's answer.
For E-mail results to, only the total score is sent. Individual responses and question scores are not included.
Submission Properties. For E-mail submissions, only a student’s response to each question is sent. The total score and the score for each question are not included.
TIP: Sometimes a student might argue that “WebCampus changed my answers.” Use both the E-mail Results and E-mail Submissions options as proof that the answers the student selected at the time of submission is what you see. You could even e-mail them their submission as proof.
Security Properties. Use these options if you plan to administer the quiz in a proctored environment. If you want to control where students take an exam, reserve a computer lab or test center on campus and obtain the computers’ IP address information from the lab coordinator. Entering this information in the quiz settings will prevent students from taking the exam anywhere else but in that lab or test center. IMPORTANT: If you want to restrict access to an assessment by IP address, you should contact your network administrator for assistance.
Custom Instructions. Enter instructions that appear when Students begin the assessment. These instructions appear at the top of the assessment window. The setting Display custom assessment instructions on every question when questions are delivered one at a time appears if you selected the option to deliver one question at a time. If you do not select this option, instructions are displayed with the first question only.
Step 4: Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.
