Release Criteria: 3. How do I release an item only to certain groups in my course?

Release Criteria: Group Criteria

If learning groups have been created in the course and you want to release an item to certain groups only, you can add group criteria to the item. Example: If two learning groups have been created and separate quizzes have been created for each group, you can add group criteria to the quizzes so that each quiz will be released only to the group that you specify.

You can also add group criteria to an item if you do want to release it to certain groups. Example: If five learning groups have been created and you want to release a Media Library collection to four of the five learning groups, instead of selecting the four groups to which you want to release the collection, you can select the one group to which you do not want to release the collection.

IMPORTANT: If you add group criteria to an item, ensure the item is set to show. If the item is hidden, when the release criteria is satisfied, the item will not be visible. For more information, see Showing or Hiding Items Using the Selective Release Tool.

Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Instructors and Designers.

Step 1: From the Build or Teach tab, click Selective Release on the Designer Tools (Build tab) menu or Instructor Tools (Teach tab) menu:

Step 2: From the Selective Release screen,

Locate the item to which you want to add group criteria. TIP: To display the items in a folder or learning module, next to the name of the folder or learning module, click the Expand icon. The items in the content folder or learning module display.

Step 3: In the row of the item, under Release Criteria, click Set Release Criteria.

Step 4: Click Add Group Criteria.

Step 5: Do one of the following:

  • To release the item to specific groups only:
    • Next to Group Name, select Equals.
       
    • Select groups by doing one of the following:
      • To select one or more groups, next to each group to which you want to release the item, select the check box.
         
      • To select all groups, in the table heading row, select the check box.
         
  • To specify the groups to whom you do not want to release the item:
    • Next to Group Name, select Does not equal.
       
    • Select groups by doing one of the following:
      • To select one or more groups, next to each groups to which you do not want to release the item, select the check box.
         
      • To select all groups, in the table heading row, select the check box.

Step 6: Click Save to add the group criterion.

When you are finished adding release criteria to the item, click Save on the Set Release Criteria for screen.

The item will be released when the release criteria are satisfied. To indicate that release criteria have been set for the item, in folders and the tool in which the item was created, the word Conditional appears in parentheses next to the item.
