Release Criteria: Show me an example of how to set up several release criteria on a single item.
Advanced Release Criteria Example
This is an example to guide you through the process of setting advanced release criteria for an item. In this example, you want to release an item based on the following criteria:
- section member has achieved a score of greater than or equal to 50 on two quizzes titled Quiz 1 and Quiz 2, Or
- section member has achieved a score of greater than 75 on Quiz 3, Or
- section member is a member of Group 1, And
- the date is November 30th, 2005, between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M.
NOTE: If you want to reproduce this example, in the Assessments tool, three quizzes must be created titled Quiz 1, Quiz 2, and Quiz 3; in the Group Manager tool, a group must be created named Group 1; and, at least, one item or folder must have been added to the Course Content tool.
Step 1: From the Selective Release screen,
From the Course Content tab, locate the item you want to use for this example and, under Release Criteria, click Set Release Criteria.
Step 2: Click Add Grade Book Criteria.
Step 3: Set the Grade Book criterion so that the section member has achieved a score of greater than or equal to 50 on Quiz 1:

From the Criteria drop-down list, select Quiz 1.
- From the Condition drop-down list, select Greater than or equal to.
- In the Value text box, enter 50.
- Click Save. The Set Release Criteria for screen appears and the criterion is added.
Step 4: Click Add Grade Book Criteria.
Step 5: Set the Grade Book criterion so that the section member has achieved a score of greater than or equal to 50 on Quiz 2:
- From the Criteria drop-down list, select Quiz 2.
- From the Condition drop-down list, select Greater than or equal to.
- In the Value text box, enter 50.
- Click Save. The Set Release Criteria for screen appears and the criterion is added.
Step 6: Click Add Grade Book Criteria.
Step 7: Set the Grade Book criterion so that the section member has achieved a score of greater than 75 on Quiz 3:
- From the Criteria drop-down list, select Quiz 3.
- From the Condition drop-down list, select Greater than.
- In the Value text box, enter 75.
- Click Save. The Set Release Criteria for screen appears and the criterion is added.
Step 8: Click Add Group Criteria.
Step 9: Set the group criteria so that the section member is a member of Group 1:
- Select Group 1.
- Click Save. The Set Release Criteria for screen appears and the criterion is added.
Step 10: Click Add Date Criteria.
Step 11: Set the date criteria as November 30, 2005 between 8:00 A.M. and 10:00 P.M.:

Under Available Starting:
- Select the radio button next to the date selection area.

Do one of the following:
- Click the Date Selection Calendar icon and, from the pop-up window that appears, select November 30, 2005.
- From the date drop-down lists, select November 30, 2005

From the time drop-down lists, select 8:00AM

Under Available Until:
- Select the radio button next to the date selection area.

Do one of the following:
- Click the Date Selection Calendar icon and, from the pop-up window that appears, select November 30, 2005.
- From the date drop-down lists, select November 30, 2005

From the time drop-down lists, select 10:00PM.
- Click Save. The Set Release Criteria for screen appears.
Next, you will group the criteria, as appropriate, by indenting the criteria.
Step 12: Next to the date criterion, select the check box and click Indent. The criterion indents.
Step 13: Next to the group criterion, select the check box and click Indent. The criterion indents.
Step 14: Next to the criterion for Quiz 3, select the check box and click Indent. The criterion indents.
Step 15: Next to the criterion for Quiz 2, select the check box and click Indent. The criterion indents.
Step 16: Move the criterion for Quiz 1 into the parentheses with Quiz 2:
- Next to the criterion for Quiz 1, select the check box.
- Next to the criterion for Quiz 2, under Move , click the Move Selected Item Above icon.
Step 17: Before you continue, check your work to ensure you have set the release criteria correctly so far. Click Preview Expression. The Preview Expression pop-up window appears. The release criteria should look the same as the following: ( Quiz 1 Greater than or equal to 50 And Quiz 2 Greater than or equal to 50 ) Or ( Quiz 3 Greater than 75 ) Or ( Group Equals Group 1 ) Or ( November 30, 2005 08:00 AM Until November 30, 2005 10:00 PM ). To close the Preview Expression pop-up window, click OK.
Select the appropriate Boolean operators:
Step 18: Next to the criterion for Quiz 2, from the And/Or drop-down list, ensure And is selected.
Step 19: Next to the parentheses above the Quiz 3 criterion, from the And/Or drop-down list, ensure Or is selected.
Step 20: Next to the parentheses above the group criteria, from the And/Or drop-down list, ensure Or is selected.
Step 21: Next to the parentheses above the date criteria, from the And/Or drop-down list, select And.
If you click Preview Expression, the release criteria appears as follows: ( Quiz 1 Greater than or equal to 50 And Quiz 2 Greater than or equal to 50 ) Or ( Quiz 3 Greater than 75 ) Or ( Group Equals Group 1 ) And ( November 30, 2005 08:00 AM Until November 30, 2005 10:00 PM ). To close the Preview Expression pop-up window, click OK.
Step 22: Do one of the following:

To return to the Selective Release screen without saving the example release criteria, click Cancel.
- To save the release criteria, click Save.
The Selective Release screen appears.
