SCORM: *Overview

SCORM Modules

Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)-compliant content packages are created outside of the learning system and imported into your course as a .zip file. SCORM content packages can contain the following two types of learning objects:

  • Assets: normally files or images, such as an HTML file
  • Sharable Content Objects (SCOs), such as a quiz

Once imported into the learning system, the SCORM content package is referred to as a SCORM module. SCORM modules are displayed in a user interface very similar to that of a learning module, including a table of contents and Previous and Next icons for navigation.

For example, when a quiz is imported into the learning system as a SCORM module, the SCORM module containing the quiz displays within the course interface containing the optional table of contents and Previous and Next icons, but the content, grading scheme, and appearance of the quiz itself is determined by the creator of the quiz. Data generated by the quiz, such as Student grades, are reported in the Grade Book tool on the Teach tab.

You can access the SCORM Module tool from both the Build tab and the Teach tab.

From the Build tab, you can use the SCORM Module tool for:

  • creating (importing) SCORM modules.
  • viewing SCORM modules.
  • editing a SCORM module's title or description.
  • hiding or showing SCORM modules.
  • running SCORM module data reports.
  • linking SCORM modules to the Course Content or Learning Modules tools.
  • setting or editing release criteria for SCORM modules.
  • deleting SCORM modules.

From the Teach tab, you can use the SCORM Module tool for:

  • running SCORM module data reports.
  • viewing the SCORM modules that have been added to your course.
  • editing the description of a SCORM module
  • showing or hiding SCORM modules.

TIP: You can view Students' grades for gradable SCORM modules in the Grade Book tool. Grades are automatically calculated within the SCORM module and then reported on the SCORM Grades tab of the Grade Book tool.
