Selective Release: Show / Hide Items

NOTE: You can also show or hide items from within the Course Content tool and from within the tool in which the items were created.

You can control whether items in the Course Content tool are visible to Students by using the Selective Release tool to show or hide the items. Example: If an assignment and a learning module have been added to the Course Content tool but you do not want them to be visible to Students yet, you can use the Selective Release tool to temporarily hide both of the items. When you want the assignment and the learning module to be visible to Students, you can use the Selective Release tool to show both of the items.

When you hide an item, all instances of the item in the course are hidden; when you show an item, all instances of the item in the course are shown. IMPORTANT: If release criteria are set for an item, the item must be set to show. If release criteria are set for an item and the item is hidden, when the release criteria are satisfied, the item will not be visible to Students.

Role(s) Needed: These instructions apply to Instructors and Designers.

Step 1: From the Build or Teach tab, click  Selective Release on the Designer Tools (Build tab) menu or Instructor Tools (Teach tab) menu:

Step 2: From the Selective Release screen,

From the Course Content tab, locate the item that you want to show or hide.

To display items in a folder or learning module, next to the title of the folder or learning module, click the Expand icon. All items in the folder or learning module display.

Step 3: Do one of the following:

• To show all instances of an item, click Show Item.

The button switches to Hide Item and all instances of the item are shown to Students. NOTE: If release criteria are set for the item and the release criteria are not satisfied, all instances of the item will show when the release criteria are satisfied.

• To hide all instances of an item, click Hide Item.

The button switches to Show Item and all instances of the item are hidden from Students.
